Baseball Game Preview: Navarro Panthers vs. Medina Valley Panthers

We've got a battle between Panthers coming up. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Navarro has four straight wins, Medina Valley has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Navarro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Pearsall 19-1 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.

Matthew Villanueva made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colt Brown, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Noah Rosas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Navarro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pearsall only posted an OBP of .455.

Meanwhile, Medina Valley suffered their closest loss since May 10, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Eagle Pass by a score of 5-3.

Reese Hatcher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Ripps, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Navarro's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Medina Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Navarro couldn't quite get it done against Medina Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 as they fell 4-0. Can Navarro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
