Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask UMS-Wright Prep). They blew past the Williamson Lions 22-1 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Manning Amorde made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. UMS-Wright Prep is undefeated when Amorde posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, UMS-Wright Prep got a massive performance out of Nathan Covo, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Covo a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Ty Waters, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
UMS-Wright Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
UMS-Wright Prep pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Williamson, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. UMS-Wright Prep will venture away from home to square off against T.R. Miller at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
