Basketball Recap: Ameeya Steadham Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Land O' Lakes

Cypress Creek hadn't done well against Land O' Lakes recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cypress Creek Coyotes snuck past the Land O' Lakes Gators with a 57-51 victory. For the Coyotes , this counts as revenge for the 77-36 win the Gators walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cypress Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ameeya Steadham, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Steadham a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Deslynn Nickell, who went 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Cypress Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Land O' Lakes still got an impressive performance from Jessi Saffold, who almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals. Saffold is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least five every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Foster, who posted seven points along with nine boards and five assists.

Cypress Creek's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Land O' Lakes, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Cypress Creek will be playing in front of their home fans against Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cypress Creek surely won't give up without a fight. Land O' Lakes has already played their next game (against Wiregrass Ranch), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
