William Campbell is 2-8 against Chatham since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Generals will welcome the Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, William Campbell needed a bit of extra time to put away Nelson County. They came out on top against the Governors by a score of 8-4. The victory continues a trend for the Generals in their matchups with the Governors: they've now won four in a row.
Peighton Francis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Francis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lilly Puckette was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kayla Hudgins, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
William Campbell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chatham owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance last Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Nelson County. The Cavaliers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Not much got past Corra Liggon, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Nelson County off the board. Liggon has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Harmon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Chatham and bumps their season record up to 2-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for William Campbell, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Chatham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: William Campbell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. It's a different story for Chatham, though, as they've only averaged .196. Will they be able to contain William Campbell's hitters?
