Hanover Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Munster, who was ranked sixth at the time (Hanover Central was ranked 25th). The Wildcats took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs on Monday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jillian Deyoung was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Deyoung was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Oostman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Lowell came into Monday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Andrean with a sharp 9-3 victory on Monday.
Olivia Fuentes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Isobella Vaught was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Peyton Lonardi was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Lowell lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Lowell's record now sits at 3-5. As for Hanover Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Lowell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hanover Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462.
