2A Region 5 recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to LaFayette, who took down 319th ranked Horseshoe Bend, 21-15.
The Bulldogs moved up to 338 from 369 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A Region 5. LaFayette was able to move up by defeating the Generals 21-15.
Marlon Bridges Jr. provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lanett topped Isabella.
Bridges Jr. was a beast in the backfield as the Panthers topped the Mustangs.
Alex Acreman made the biggest impact on defense this week as Montgomery Academy bested Randolph County. The 5-foot-10 defensive end racked up 2 sacks.
Josh Thomas put up the best numbers through the air as the Eagles defeated the Tigers. He finished with 5 completions for 106 yards. Thomas' favorite target this week was Kit Birdsong, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.
Montgomery Academy's Thomas and Sam LaPlatney led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Thomas has thrown for 827 yards this season, while LaPlatney has 13 catches for 426 yards. Bridges Jr. from Lanett leads the league in rushing with 1,115 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Anthony McCall's team takes on Reeltown. The Eagles are in second place, while the Rebels are in fourth place.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Region 5 this week, Clifford Story Jr.'s team beat Isabella 25-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Panthers.
