Dos Palos and Coalinga are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Broncos will take on the Horned Toads at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Coalinga will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Dos Palos extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Broncos' pitchers stepped up to hand Firebaugh a 16-0 shutout.
Carly Brinkley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brinkley was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Von Allman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Julie Barba was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
Dos Palos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Coalinga came out on top against Mendota on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Horned Toads blew past the Aztecs 8-0.
The result came thanks to Cabella Redding's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brooklyn Davis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Chloe Sandoval, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
The victory got Dos Palos back to even at 11-11. As for Coalinga, their record is now 18-10.
Dos Palos' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Broncos have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Coalinga, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Dos Palos continue to outrun the ball?
Dos Palos skirted past Coalinga 3-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
