Captain Shreve is 9-0 against Southwood since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Captain Shreve Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Southwood Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Captain Shreve has five straight victories, Southwood has 17 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Captain Shreve earned a 32-24 win over Natchitoches Central. Given Captain Shreve's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Natchitoches Central is ranked 111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Quortni Beaner was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 49-8, which was the final score in Southwood's tilt against Benton on Thursday.
Captain Shreve has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven games, giving them a 6-1 record. As for Southwood, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7.
Captain Shreve skirted past Southwood 29-26 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Captain Shreve since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
