With a playoff win on the line, Cross County rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-43 victory over the West Holt Huskies. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on 21 straight.
Cross County was led to victory by Sawyer Anderson and Wyatt Hengelfelt. Anderson went 5-for-11 en route to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Hengelfelt posted nine points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Allen, who put up six points and six boards.
West Holt's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zach Hooey, who earned eight points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Konrad, who had five points in addition to ten boards and five assists.
Cross County's victory bumped their record up to 26-2. As for West Holt, their loss dropped their record down to 22-6.
Cross County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-43 defeat against Archbishop Bergan on the 15th. As for West Holt, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-48 loss against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] on the 15th.
