Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for West Caldwell in a 67-53 win over Newton-Conover last Friday. Given West Caldwell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Newton-Conover is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jordan Patterson, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Nylan Battle was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
The victory got Hickory Christian Academy back to even at 5-5. As for West Caldwell, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
