Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Geraldine

Geraldine extended their postseason success on Saturday against Collinsville. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won 17 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Shyla Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Callie Bearden was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sophie Bearden, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Geraldine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 19-1-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory (which was Geraldine's third in a row) raised their record to 23-15-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Collinsville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-17.

As of now, neither Geraldine nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
