3A Region III District 18 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Rockdale was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 3A Region III District 18. Earlier in the week, the Tigers defeated Hillsboro 27-15.
Caldwell moved up to 777 from 815 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Hornets were able to make the jump by beating the Hornets 42-22.
Navasota's dynamic duo of Kadarius Baker and Solomon McGinty proved tough for McCallum to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Baker threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns and McGinty had 139 yards receiving. Austin Collins helped Navasota's passing attack out by catching two balls for 60 yards.
Caelin Goss was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 114 yards as Caldwell topped the Knights. Brett Gilchrist also contributed to the rushing game with 85 yards on the ground.
Navasota's Baker and McGinty have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Region III District 18 in both passing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 2079 yards this season, while McGinty has 38 catches for 872 yards. Goss from Kenneth Gilchrist's team leads the league in rushing with 287 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Navasota takes on second place Madisonville. Lee Fedora's team defeated McCallum last week, while Madisonville bested Huntington.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Mustangs take on the Rattlers. Madisonville has allowed 93 points this season, while Navasota has given up 43. Greg Morgan's team allowed 6 points last week as it beat the Red Devils.
The Rattlers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Jason Cecil's team, 57-9. The win marks sixth in a row for the Navasota.
