The Plant City Raiders and the Plant Panthers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Plant City Raiders had to settle for second. Plant City fell to Plant 31-27. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Plant City in their matchups with Plant: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Plant City saw an underclassman step up: Haven Pierce picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Plant City's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. In that department, Davin Stone-grant was the leader with two sacks.
Plant can attribute much of their success to Waltez Clark, who rushed for 70 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Jarrett, who gained 99 total yards and a touchdown.
Plant City's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Plant, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Plant City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Plant will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dr. Phillips at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Dr. Phillips is ranked 94th, while Plant is ranked 96th).
