Make it five blowout wins for the Springfield Longhorns this season. They blew past La Veta, posting a 55-22 victory on the road. That's another feather in the cap for Springfield, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Springfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lainee Leathers out in front who scored 13 points along with six assists and six steals. Leathers is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Bay Ellis was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds.
Despite the loss, La Veta saw an underclassman step up: Zoe Reif scored eight points along with seven blocks and six rebounds.
Springfield now has a winning record of 7-6. As for La Veta, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Springfield will challenge the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Veta, they will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Primero focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 last Thursday.
