The Cienega Bobcats came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Nogales on the road to the tune of 73-46. With Cienega ahead 46-23 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Cienega's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Golembieski, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Golembieski is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Rodgers, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Several Apaches players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rafael Vasavilbaso, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Tony Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cienega has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Nogales, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9.
Cienega will take on Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Buena is ranked 69th, while Cienega is ranked 61st). As for Nogales, they will head out on the road to challenge Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert View has now lost 17 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 25.
