The Southwestern Rebels waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 41-34 win over Rising Sun. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Southwestern also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Southwestern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashley Fulton out in front who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Rorie Scroggins was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds.
Defeat or not, Rising Sun got some senior leadership from Alyssa Simpson and Jenna Peelman. Simpson dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Peelman. scored six points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Simpson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carrigan Friend, who scored six points.
Southwestern pushed their record up to 13-10 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Rising Sun, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
Southwestern will be playing in front of their home fans against Jac-Cen-Del at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rising Sun on the road again on Tuesday and play against Switzerland County at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Switzerland County is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
