The Poyen Indians will challenge the Woodlawn Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Poyen turned things around against Fordyce on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Redbugs by a score of 12-9. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Colt Barrett was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Karter Felty, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
16 must be Woodlawn's lucky number: they beat Smackover with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Bears put the hurt on the Buckaroos with a sharp 16-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Tate Hall, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Weatherford, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Woodlawn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Woodlawn is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Poyen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Poyen has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Woodlawn struggles in that department as they've averaged .538. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Poyen suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Woodlawn when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
