Nathan Finley and Darron Deffebaugh provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Baxter Springs. The longest such play in Southeast Kansas this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Chanute added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Fort Scott, 28-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Blue Comets.
Field Kindley's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Finley threw for 161 and 1 touchdown and Deffebaugh had 101 yards receiving. On the ground LaDarrius Johnson contributed 80 yards. James Newton helped Field Kindley's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 60 yards.
Austin Stansbury made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Golden Tornado topped the Lions. The 6-foot-0 senior forced 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Deffebaugh was the best receiver in the league this week as Field Kindley topped Baxter Springs. Deffebaugh tallied 3 receptions for 101 yards. Newton helped Field Kindley's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 60 yards.
Field Kindley's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Golden Tornado feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Finley has thrown for 1,632 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Newton has 34 catches for 651 yards.
Chanute made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,505 from 3,743. The advance stemmed from a 28-7 victory over the Tigers last week.
