The Catalina Foothills Falcons came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Cholla at home to the tune of 65-23. Given Catalina Foothills' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Cholla is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Catalina Foothills to victory were Kayanna Chief and Clara-Mae Hrouch. Chief scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Hrouch scored 22 points along with five assists and two steals. Hrouch has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times she's played. Alessandra Egginton was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Catalina Foothills pushed their record up to 15-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Cholla, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catalina Foothills will take on Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cholla, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pueblo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Tuesday.
