Hardcastle is becoming a predictor of the Sundevils' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Ruelas, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but New Mexico Military Institute ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over Ruidoso. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Tegin Maloney and Javier Yepiz Galindo were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Maloney pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Yepiz Galindo struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off five hits. Maloney has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Maloney scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Yepiz Galindo went 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nicolas Barcelo Teran and Konstatino Scopelitis did most of the damage at the plate: Barcelo Teran scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Scopelitis went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Scopelitis a new career-high.
New Mexico Military Institute's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Sandia Prep, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
