The Tyler Classical Academy Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Athens Christian Preparatory Academy. Tyler Classical Academy has not had much luck with Athens Christian Preparatory Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson McClean, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jared Garner, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Athens Christian Preparatory Academy had a senior duo take command as Landry Gammon almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists and Mitchell Koerth scored 24 points along with five rebounds. The game was Gammon's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheadon Morrow, who scored six points along with five assists and three steals.
Tyler Classical Academy's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. As for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tyler Classical Academy will face off against King's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully King's Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday. As for Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Longview Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Longview Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
