The Lee County Yellow Jackets will challenge the Chatham Central Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lee County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while Chatham Central will come in with five straight wins.
Scotland hit Lee County with a eight-run fourth inning last Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellow Jackets came up short against the Fighting Scots, falling 14-1.
Lee County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cherish Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Chatham Central made easy work of Northwood on Tuesday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Maeson Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Burke was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Sallie Oldham was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Chatham Central pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Lee County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Lee County might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Chatham Central in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Yellow Jackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
