After a string of five wins, the Sickles Gryphons's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 45-37 to Steinbrenner. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sickles has scored all season.
Sickles' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jadyn Watts, who scored 18 points along with four steals, and Beckham Hockley who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals. That was a full 35.1% of Sickles' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rye'keriyah Newton, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Steinbrenner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Adams, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Adams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Naomi Parker was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Sickles' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-4. As for Steinbrenner, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Sickles will be playing in front of their home fans against Sumner at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sumner has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three matches. As for Steinbrenner, they will head out on the road to challenge Wharton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (Wharton: 28.4, Steinbrenner: 28.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
