The Ponaganset Chieftains will be home for the holidays to greet the Chariho Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Ponaganset faced St. Mary Academy-Bay View in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ponaganset walked away with a 39-30 win over St. Mary Academy-Bay View. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Ponaganset has scored all year.
Jaina Yekelchik continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Ponaganset's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anastasia Nerney, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Chariho didn't have too much trouble with East Greenwich on the road on Thursday as they won 57-42. The win made it back-to-back wins for Chariho.
The win (which was Ponaganset's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. As for Chariho, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Everything came up roses for Ponaganset against Chariho when the teams last played back in March as the squad secured a 64-33 victory. Does Ponaganset have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chariho turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
