After both having extra time off, the James Lick Comets and the Evergreen Valley Cougars will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between James Lick and Yerba Buena, and James Lick kept the tradition alive. The Comets put the hurt on the Aztec Warriors with a sharp 18-3 victory last Wednesday.

James Lick let Jocelyn Perez and Marlie Haro run wild. Perez went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Haro got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Haro a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jada Cruz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: James Lick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Evergreen Valley got the win against Gunderson last Friday by a conclusive 12-4. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Mackenzie Brongiel made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ariella Solorio was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Sakura Roberts was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Evergreen Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for James Lick, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.
James Lick suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Evergreen Valley in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Comets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
