WESTON, Conn. -
Weston (Conn.) grabbed the lead when
Tyler Hassett thew a touchdown to
Justin Schaffer with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Stratford (Conn.) 20-15 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured three lead swaps.
The Red Devils pulled ahead on a passing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 7-0. The Trojans scored the winning points with a touchdown pass by Hassett to Schaffer that came in the fourth quarter.
Weston's standout player in the win was Hassett. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns. He has now scored 14 touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game WHS had allowed 22.5 points per game this year. The Trojans held firm on the defensive front, and kept Stratford above the 11.7 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Weston came away with a 36-0 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for WHS, which lost to New Fairfield last week, 42-21.
In a Southwest game next week Weston (6-1) takes on Masuk, and Stratford (2-5) will go up against New Milford also in a Southwest game.
