The Akron Rams struggled with assists on Friday (the Merino Rams had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Akron suffered a rough 50-26 loss at the hands of Merino. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Akron has scored all season.
Akron struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Merino found their leader in underclassman Kya Piel, who scored 14 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Piel is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Brooklyn Sutter was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Akron's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-7. As for Merino, they pushed their record up to 14-0 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Akron will take on Wiggins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Akron focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Merino, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sedgwick County at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Sedgwick County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
