Tolleson has gone 9-1 against Valley Vista recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolverines will welcome the Monsoon at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tolleson has four straight wins, Valley Vista has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Tolleson earned a 7-4 victory over Kofa.
Mayrin Acuna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Dani Chairez and Marina Lara did most of the damage at the plate: Chairez scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Lara went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Preciado, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Tolleson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Valley Vista lost 25-10 to Westwood on Tuesday.
Addison Kennedy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyse Quezada, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Tolleson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tolleson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .416. However, it's not like Valley Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tolleson took their win against Valley Vista in their previous meeting on Monday by a conclusive 17-0 score. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monsoon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
