The Legacy Early College Lions had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against Providence Day by a score of 46-37. Given Legacy Early College's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in South Carolina, while Providence Day is ranked 29th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Legacy Early College to victory, but perhaps none more so than Janyia Williams, who scored nine points. Mela Hollaway was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Providence Day's loss came despite strong showings from Jaida Mcclure and Ellie Fyans. Mcclure scored 16 points, while Fyans scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Mcclure has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played.
Legacy Early College is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Providence Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Legacy Early College will take on Victory Christian Center at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Legacy Early College is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. As for Providence Day, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cannon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cannon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine games.
