St. Pauls is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Midway is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bulldogs will welcome the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Pauls took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Heide Trask, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Titans on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since March 25th.
Kayla Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, Angel Purcell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ke'Mya Baldwin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Midway got themselves on the board against Red Springs last Tuesday, but Red Springs never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Red Devils. Considering the Raiders have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Midway let Samantha Carter and Ella Clark run wild. Carter went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Clark went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Clark a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karabeth Benton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Midway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in five consecutive games.
St. Pauls is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Midway, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.
St. Pauls couldn't quite get it done against Midway in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
