River Bluff is a perfect 10-0 against Lugoff-Elgin since November of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Demons at 7:30 p.m. River Bluff is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
River Bluff took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 67-20 win over Brookland-Cayce. With the Gators ahead 38-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Chaelyn Tifre was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. Campell Childers was another key player, shooting 67% from the field to rack up 14 points.
River Bluff was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lugoff-Elgin didn't have quite enough to beat Lower Richland on Tuesday and fell 50-47. The Demons have struggled against the Diamond Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
River Bluff will have to keep a close watch on Jordan Samuel and Teryn Hobson, a pair of players who had a big impact on Lugoff-Elgin's prior game. Samuel posted 18 points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds, while Hobson earned 14 points along with five boards and four steals. Samuel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last nine games she's played dating back to last season.
Lugoff-Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for River Bluff, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: River Bluff has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lugoff-Elgin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
River Bluff didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Lugoff-Elgin in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 46-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
