If the Fowler Grizzlies were feeling good off their 56-11 takedown of the Walsenburg Panthers last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fowler took a serious blow against Peyton on Friday, falling 66-34. While losing is never fun, Fowler can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Peyton is ranked 17th).
Fowler's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaslyn Bates, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds. Gracie Osborne was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for AJ Mannering, who scored 26 points for Peyton. Mannering is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Abbie Nickell, who scored 16 points.
Fowler's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Peyton, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their 13th straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fowler and Crowley County will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Peyton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against McClave at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. McClave is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
