Stoughton is 0-3 against Baraboo since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. Stoughton has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Stoughton is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of DeForest.
Emily Matheny and Abby Lange stepped up to the plate in a big way. Matheny got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, while Lange scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Chloe Buell was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Baraboo made easy work of Wisconsin Dells on Monday and carried off an 11-2 win. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.
Taytum Poker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Baraboo got a massive performance out of Zeva Valley, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Addison Kohler, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
Baraboo pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Stoughton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Stoughton suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Baraboo when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
