Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Red Springs turned things around against Seventy-First on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Falcons a 16-0 shutout. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Bailey Locklear was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Ava Goins was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. Gabriella Locklear was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Red Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Whiteville fell victim to South Brunswick and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 18-0 to the Cougars. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Wolfpack haven't been shut out since back in March.
Red Springs' victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Whiteville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
Red Springs came up short against Whiteville in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, falling 5-1. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
