The Richton Rebels will face off against the Quitman Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Richton's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Quitman has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
On Friday, Richton came up short against Lumberton and fell 5-1.
Wyatt Cochran was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Quitman hadn't done well against Meridian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted against the Wildcats since April 6, 2019.
Quitman also got a great performance from James Files as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.1 innings pitched. Files also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Panthers are 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Quitman's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Landen Herrington, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Herrington a new career-high. Another was Daniel Peters, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Quitman's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Richton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Richton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Quitman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Richton suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Quitman in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Rebels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
