Chaparral is ranked highly in their home state and   on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Reno. The Chaparral Firebirds fell just short of the Reno Huskies by a score of  4-2.  Devin Long was a  force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he  struck out nine batters over  five innings while giving up just one earned  (and three unearned) runs off   two  hits. He has been consistent  recently: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Reece Solar was cooking despite his team's loss,   going 1-for-3 with one  home run. The team also got some help courtesy of  Gavin Mesa, who  went 2-for-3 with one  RBI.
Chaparral's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Reno, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
 Looking ahead, Chaparral will be taking part in a tournament against Hamilton  at 9:00  a.m.  on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few  runs on average, (Chaparral 3.4, Hamilton 4) so any  runs scored will be well earned. As for Reno, they will take on Grand Terrace in a tournament  on Monday.
