Galileo is 0-3 against Lowell since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Lions will welcome the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. Galileo has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Galileo's offense. They came up short against Balboa on Tuesday, falling 18-0. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Lowell waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears a 21-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Laura Valencia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Aja Saraf was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Kline, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive games.
Lowell's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Galileo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
