The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Inspiration Academy Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lakewood Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Lakewood Ranch couldn't beat Sarasota on Tuesday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fifth inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Sailors by a score of 9-8. The Mustangs have struggled against the Sailors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Lakewood Ranch saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Meneely, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another was Corin Soria, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Inspiration Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Palmetto on Tuesday. The Lions blew past the Tigers 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Elle Hildreth spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Inspiration Academy let Avery Bouquin and Amelia Mejias run wild. Bouquin went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Mejias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Mejias a new career-high. Mya Ferrari also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Inspiration Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmetto only managed two hits.
Inspiration Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Both Lakewood Ranch and Inspiration Academy just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Inspiration Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakewood Ranch suffered a grim 16-7 defeat to Inspiration Academy in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
