Maine South had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 39-26 victory over the Vernon Hills Cougars. The win was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won four contests in a row dating back to last season.

Maine South didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Emerson De La Cruz, Tina Majka, and Gabi Shaw picked up one apiece.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maine South will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Maine West at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Vernon Hills, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lakes at 5:00 p.m. on September 5.
