Columbia and the Exporters are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Columbia Roughnecks will head out on the road to take on the Brazosport Exporters at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
Columbia had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They breezed by La Marque at home to the tune of 58-19. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Columbia considering their 25-point performance the match before.
Alexia Lewis went supernova for Columbia, scoring 23 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayvah Fields, who scored five points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Brazosport unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 68-33 loss at the hands of Iowa Colony.
Brazosport's defeat came about despite a quality game from Londyn Brown, who scored six points along with 18 rebounds and two blocks. Brown hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for ten straight games. Ahmasia Brown was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 16 rebounds.
Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 10-19. As for Brazosport, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Columbia have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Brazosport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 46.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Columbia ended up a good deal behind the Exporters when the teams last played back in January, losing 59-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brown, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 17 rebounds, and ten blocks.
