Softball Recap: Alcona Gets the Win

Alcona came out on top against Heston Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Patriots 12-10. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly two runs.

Adriana Grimshaw and Zoey O'Connor did most of the damage at the plate: Grimshaw went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double, while O'Connor went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lily Barth, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Alcona and bumps their season record up to 9-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Heston Academy, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.

Coming up, Alcona will host Tawas Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Heston Academy, they will take on Houghton Lake at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
