Basketball Recap: Pamlico Christian Academy Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Pamlico Christian Academy's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They took down the Mount Calvary Christian Academy Warriors 67-53. Given the Mariners' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Warriors are ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

James Howard was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 21 on his way to 33 points in addition to six boards and five steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Gaskins, who posted eight points and three steals.

Pamlico Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Pamlico Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Pamlico Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-37 loss against Bethel Christian Academy on the 16th. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Heritage Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
