After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Millard South, the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 70-53 win over Burke. That's another feather in the cap for Papillion-LaVista, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Brock Rahl was the offensive standout of the contest as he went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Trey Richardson, who scored seven points along with five assists.
Burke's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael White, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Buchanan, who scored ten points.
Papillion-LaVista has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Burke, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-8.
Papillion-LaVista won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Platteview at 9:00 p.m. on January 19th. Platteview has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. Burke's road trip will continue as they head out to face Omaha Northwest at 2:45 p.m. on January 20th. Allowing an average of 66.8 points per game, Omaha Northwest has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
