Riverdale is 0-10 against Mineral Point since December of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Chieftains will be home for the holidays to greet the Pointers at 7:15 p.m. Riverdale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season.
Last Thursday, Riverdale strolled past Iowa-Grant with points to spare, taking the game 54-35. The victory continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Macy McKay continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 14 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Riverdale's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Harris, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Riverdale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, Mineral Point came up short against Darlington on Tuesday and fell 53-45.
Riverdale will need to focus on slowing down Sadie Miller, one of several Mineral Point players who made an impact when they last played. She posted ten points. Thanks to that strong game, Miller now owns an excellent 41.4% three-point shooting accuracy. Sophie Miller was another key player, putting up nine points.
Mineral Point's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Riverdale, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Riverdale has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 44.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Mineral Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Riverdale was taken down by Mineral Point 62-23 in their previous matchup back in January. Will the Chieftains have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
