The Sierra Stallions will head out to take on the Gateway Olympians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Sierra has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Thursday, Sierra didn't have quite enough to beat Mitchell and fell 6-5.

Rodrigo Marquez put in work no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Marquez was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing five bases while going 2-for-2. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last eight times he's played.
In other batting news, Isaac Christman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Romeo Diaz, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Gateway made easy work of Overland on Thursday and carried off a 17-7 victory. Considering the Olympians have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mervin Loya was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He also got three hits, which is notable because Gateway is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-4 otherwise. Jakob Petersen also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Gateway has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Sierra, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sierra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gateway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sierra might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Gateway when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Stallions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
