Basketball Recap: Griffith Gets the Win

Griffith won the last time they faced Calumet New Tech and things went their way on Thursday too. The Griffith Panthers walked away with a 68-59 win over the Calumet New Tech Warriors. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Griffith found their leader in sophomore Jaylan Rockett, who posted 20 points and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Rockett. Jakhari Mackey was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine boards.

Calumet New Tech's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javon Lawerence, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Allen, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

Griffith has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Calumet New Tech, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6.

Griffith won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Judson-San Pierre at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Griffith is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season. As for Calumet New Tech, they will venture away from home to face off against River Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
