The William Byrd Terriers will head out on the road to challenge the Hidden Valley Titans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. William Byrd is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
William Byrd is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They came up short against Staunton River, falling 13-7. That's two games in a row now that the Terriers have lost by exactly six runs.
William Byrd saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Clark, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Clark has launched this season. Another was Heidi Dixon, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hidden Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Christiansburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted since March 30th.
ASHTON WOODSON spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits.
On the hitting side, RILEY EADES was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of BAILEY HALL, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Hidden Valley's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for William Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Hidden Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: William Byrd has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. It's a different story for Hidden Valley, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain William Byrd's hitters?
William Byrd was able to grind out a solid victory over Hidden Valley when the teams last played on April 2nd, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Terriers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
