After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bergen Catholic, the Roselle Catholic Lions were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They took down Math Civics & Sciences 73-56. Given Roselle Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 29th in New Jersey, while Math Civics & Sciences is ranked 91st in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Loss or not, Math Civics & Sciences got some senior leadership from Sair Alsbrooks and Azeem Murphy. Alsbrooks scored 16 points along with five rebounds, while Murphy. scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Brown, who scored six points.
Roselle Catholic pushed their record up to 13-11 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Math Civics & Sciences, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7.
Roselle Catholic will head out on the road to square off against Cranford at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Cranford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Roselle Catholic likes a good challenge. As for Math Civics & Sciences, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
