Mesilla Valley Christian School's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Mescalero Apache with a sharp 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the SonBlazers, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Joanna Hurd and Stailey Faust did most of the damage at the plate: Hurd went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Faust went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Hurd has posted since back in March. Addison Hackey was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Mesilla Valley Christian School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, McCurdy lost 8-2 to Mora on Wednesday.
Karina Archuleta made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Jolene Campion, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
McCurdy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mesilla Valley Christian School has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like McCurdy struggles in that department as they've averaged .550. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
