Jamestown hasn't had much luck against Olean recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Red Raiders will head out to square off against the Huskies at 5:00 p.m. Jamestown has given up an average of 16.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Southwestern hit Jamestown with a five-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Raiders lost 14-1 to the Trojans. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Red Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Olean made sure to put some runs up on the board against Salamanca on Thursday. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Warriors. That 20-run margin sets a new team best for the Huskies this season.
Tiana Maine made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Maine was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Olean let Anna Bates and Ava Finch run wild. Bates went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs, while Finch got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Bates a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ally Anastasia, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Olean always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Olean has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Jamestown, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Jamestown might still be hurting after the 24-5 loss they got from Olean in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Red Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
